The Antenna is Up
Thursday, May 22, 2008 @ 10:04 EST
Yesterday, just afternoon, I'm pleased to say that I witnessed our antenna being hoisted and locked into place. It took about two hours to assemble set up from beginning to end. Due to some error on the manufacturer's part, the bolts that secure the antenna to the base plate weren't included in the packaging. Thankfully they were standard sized bolts, so we were able to make a quick trip to Rona for replacements. If you want to check out the full pictures, have a look at the forum. It's really cool.
Otherwise, things are going pretty much according to play. While the tower was being assembled and after it was up, the crew spent the day digging the tiny trenches for our ground system. It really looked like they were ready to plant strawberries. Unfortunately, the ground is a lot rockier than we thought. As such the digging is taking a bit longer than we'd first thought. This also means that the system will not be in place in time for this weekend, so the transmitter shed will only be brought in next weekend (May 31st). All next week, or at least until it's done, they'll be laying the system. It isn't a big issue, the delay, but we're going to make the best use of time possible. I'm going to try to get the AM guy to come in to the station to clean up some of the wiring and install one or two little things.
