Levar Burton is an awesome guy.. but you don't have to take my word for it.

Levar Burton took time off from his current project (read about it here) being filmed in Montreal to have drinks with his local Twitter fans. I have to say how great it was to meet one of my heroes and meet some of the other local MTL tweeters.
For those who don't know the story, I owe the fact that I am in radio to my parents, teachers and Levar Burton. I was 6 years old and watching Reading Rainbow, it was maybe my 3rd hour in front of the TV that day and my dad asked me to turn it off. As any kid would do I asked for 5 more minutes and then hoped my dad would get distracted enough to not notice I was still watching. Luck was not on my side and exactly 5 minutes later my dad came back and turned the TV off. I didn't throw a tantrum but I asked him "why can't I watch anymore TV?" My dad made me a deal, he said "Go to school, finish university like the man on tv (Levar Burton of course) and you can watch all the TV you want". I did just that... I went to Concordia University and graduated with a specialization in sound production in June 2007 and later that year became the program director here at CJLO. That Father's Day I gave my dad a card and thanked him for telling me that day when I was a kid to finish school and get my degree. Today I got to tell Levar Burton that story in person and it felt great.
I might not be the biggest reader, but  Reading Rainbow helped create Döc Holidæ and I will never forget that.
