CSU Election Debates on CJLO

 

CJLO hosted the 2010 CSU Elections debate this past Monday on Watercooler Talk hosted by Paul Aflalo.

CSU candidates duked it out on air, describing their platforms, promises and ideas. If you missed it and still want to get informed you can listen to the audio here. If you're an undergraduate student. be sure to paya ttention and go out and vote in the CSU elections next week!

CSU 2010 Debate on CJLO - March 15th Watercooler Talk

CJLO Battle of the Bands

CJLO is super excited to present its first ever Battle of the Bands!

Concordia's best bands will be battling it out for one night only and it's going to be explosive!

There will be performances by Left Side Neighbor, Hey Predator! Mirrors, Triggered Response, Interracial Love Triangle, Elgin-Skye, Stereochic.

The competition will be judged by Jonathan Cummins of Bionic, the Doughboys and the Montreal Mirror, Mikey Bernard of M Pour Montreal, Omar Husain of Safe in Sound Management and CJLO’s Head Music Director and host of Hooked on Sonics, and Angelica Calcagnile, formerly of Aquarius & Last Gang Records and host of CJLO’s BVST.

Bands will be judged on stage presence, musicianship, originality, song writing, cohesiveness, and a popular vote component.

The winner is going to go home with two days worth of studio time, an on-line feature on our website and magazine, an in-studio session and interview on CJLO’s “Hooked on Sonics” and other great swag!

Show's at the FC Smith Auditorium on the Loyola campus (7141 Sherbrooke Street West). Doors and drinks happen at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm sharp. Admission is two bucks and there will be door prizes!

Points are given for popular vote so be sure to come and support your favorite band!

CJLO and CKUT Present: The Room

Lovers for Haiti

CJLO & Force of Nature Presents "Lovers For Haiti," A Benefit show to raise money for the earthquake victims of Haiti. All proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders and the event will take place on Valentine's Night, Sunday, February 14th, 2010.
 
DJs Nene, Rollergirl, Amrew, Solespin + Special Guests playing some of the best Pop, Funk, Hip Hop, Reggae and Compa music.There will also be CJLO give-aways!
 
Doors are at 10pm, and the party goes all night long until 3am. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 door suggested donation. It all takes place at Koi Bar located at 3603 St-Laurent, Corner Prince-Arthur.

Lovers for Haiti

Force of Nature & CJLO Present Soul Food For Haiti

FORCE OF NATURE & CJLO bring you "SOUL FOOD FOR HAITI", a benefit show for the victims of the January 12th, 2010 earthquake. There will be live perfrmances by Daphné, Sicamuzic, Dana B Burns, Karoleena and more as well as DJs Rollergirl, Amrew, Nene, Amok, and Drij.

DJ sets will include some of the best underground funk, world, and hip hop including music compa, ra ra, racine, and more! Show starts at 7pm and ends at midnight so get there early for CJLO give-aways! $5 advanced tickets / $6 door donation.

All proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) http://www.msf.ca/

Loyola On Ice!

CJLO, The Concordia University Dean of Students Office, The CSU, The Concordia Stingers and the Concordia Multifaith Chaplaincy are very proud to invite you to take a break from studying or working and come and have some fun on ice!

As part of the We Value campaign, there will be a full week of activities and events on the Loyola campus during the first week of the 2010 Olympics!

Come on up to the G-Lounge (CC-408) on Friday, February 12th to watch the opening ceremonies and cheer on our athletes. The G-Lounge will also be showing the Olympics from 9am to 5 pm all week long.

Be sure to check out the Loyola Chapel for an exhibit of Loyola's past Winter Carnivals and Concordia Olympians from 9am - 5pm all week from Monday to Friday. Also enjoy your lunch while viewing winter themed films from 12 to 2 pm at The Hive all week except Wednesday.

On Tuesday, February 16th Loyola will be hosting it's own Winter Carnival on the Quad featuring a snow sculpture competition, Centraide tug-of-war, free maple syrup on ice, hot chocolate adn soup and music by CJLO Djs. There will be great prizes like movie passes and a trip for two  to New York!

To round out the week, on Wednesday the 17th there will be an official opening of  the new CSU offices at Loyola and a re-launch of the Loyola free luncheon at noon in the Campus Centre. On Thursday the 18th enjoy a little friendly competition in the G-Lounge while playing your favorite board games and on Friday the 19th come over and visit the brand new Stingers Dome!

There's fun for everyone all week long so we'll be sure to see you...On The Ice!
