Eminem & Rihanna Break Records While "Glorifying" Domestic Abuse

He's known as Marshall Matthers, Slim Shady, Eminem, Hip Hop Elvis and now, after the release of his latest video, perhaps he'll be known as "Public Enemmy #1" to every Feminits group across America. Eminem has never been a stranger to controversy, in fact he's built an entire empire based on controversial lyrics, videos and etc... Some will argue that controversy fuels Eminem's fire and that he will use every opportunity presented to him in order to produce controversial material. In his latest video featuruing R&B superstar Rihanna, Eminem has once again succeeded at breaking records while making a few ennemies on the way. The song for the video is entitled "Love The Way You Lie" and if you haven't seen the video yet, don't worry...It's 22 million views does more than just compensate for those of you who haven't watched it yet. The song itself was written by Eminem with the intent to describe the stages that follow domestic abuse. By creating this song, Eminem has done a fantastic job of displaying the harsh realities that exist in many dysfunctional and abusive relationships. The irony behind the song is the fact that Eminem chose to have Rihanna (a former victim of physical abuse) to sing the chorus. According to sources close to the singer, Rihanna agreed to do the song once Eminem promptly explained to her that he was trying to expose the struggles many women face when dealing with abusive relationships.

Once released to the public, the video became an online phenomenon, gaining 6.6 million hits in its first 24 hours on VEVO, and 18 million views in five days. It broke a YouTube record for having the most views in 24 hours. Currently it has over 22 million views.

In the video, popular actress Megan Fox plays the role of an abused girlfriend who struggles to break up with her abusive boyfriend (Lost star Dominic Monaghan). After watching the video, many critics have agreed that the video's message is too "vague" and does not clearly represent a message against domestic abuse, but rather glorifies it by making Megan Fox's relationship with Dominic Monaghan look "sexy". In defence of the critics, there are many scenes in which our featured actors are seen making out, even after Megan Fox is pinned to the wall in what many would consider an abusive manner.

In my own personal opinion, I think the critics need to SHUT UP! Anytime Eminem puts out a video it is automatically scrutinized and talked about for weeks. His video does in no way "glorify" domestic abuse. If anything, the video shows the reality that exists in many abusive relationshpis. We've heard of numerous cases where a girl is being abused by her boyfriend/husband but is unable to leave him because she keeps believing in his fake and broken promises. Eminem is simply expressing the truth. Unfortunately, domestic violence is a huge problem that continues to prevail across America and it will only continue to grow as long as we decide to keep hush about it.

I could talk about this subject all day but my words will do little justice if you haven't seen the video yet! So here's the link and let us know what you think! Til' next time... DRAGA SFETSIOS
