Edge of the City

Hosted by

Arts and culture is where it begins, and it drops off the cliff shortly there after. EDGE OF THE CITY is your one stop away from all that is happening just around corner and half a block down the street.

Our goal is to feature all the arts and culture that this city has to offer, and we want you to help us do just that. Get in touch and come on the show, promote what you do, and how you do it!

EDGE OF THE CITY, broadcasts LIVE every Monday from Noon - 2pm on CJLO 1690AM in Montréal, Québec, and  online at www.cjlo.com, or through iTunes, under College Radio.

Paul Aflalo • Producer & Host

Paul AflaloFilmmaker, producer, radio host, and teacher are all many roles that Paul Aflalo, has had in pursuit of his long-sought career of doing anything he wants. His most notable film, Surfing the Waste: a Musical Documentary about Dumpster Diving, was an official selection at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and is the only film to ever been screened two years in a row at The World Wide Short Film Festival in Toronto. His work with local Montreal musicians, led to the production of his second short documentary, Jahsun, which follows the life of the Kalmunity Vibe Collective founder. Dabbling outside the film world, Paul produced Remember Griffintown, a three-day event celebrating the rich history of the former Montreal Irish Quarter, and as a result he became the events producer for Indyish! working with artists from Montreal, across Canada and around the world. And he of course produces and hosts this show every week. You can find out more about Paul at www.paulogic.com.

Asaf GerchakHost

Charming, intelligent and outright hilarious, Asaf Gerchak is one of Montreal's best young comedians. He is a unique writer with a talent for mixing many registers; the silly and the dark, the abstract and the angry, the dirty and the delightful. In 2011 he was voted one of the ten best comedians in Montreal by readers of the Montreal Mirror newspaper. He has been invited to showcase for Just for Laughs 3 times, appeared in Just for Laugh's inaugural Zoofest, and hosted It's All Talk with Asaf Gerchak, "an uproarious live talk show" (enRoute magazine). Host of CJLO radio's Edge of the City and a featured act in the Montreal Comedy Nest's Young Guns of Montreal Comedy series, he seriously doubts you're still reading this with any real care. Chances are, you'll just skip ahead to the quotes that are always towards the end of these things.

"Captures the audience's attention with his exuberant presence. " (forgetthebox) "An amazing comic." (tujohaha) "Three quotes are better than two. Asaf is wicked handsome." (Asaf Gerchak)

Matt GoldbergHost & Founder of Confabulation

Matt worked with the Canadian Improv Games as Montreal’s Regional Director in 2001, after having competed in the CIG for three years. He has also coached several improv teams. His stage credits include Possible Worlds (with Uncalled For), The Real Inspector HoundThe Bible: The Complete Word of God  (Abridged)Cosi and Cabaret. Matt holds a BA from McGill University, and an MA in English and Theatre from the University of Guelph. He works currently as an English and Drama teacher in Montreal, at the high school and college levels. He is also the creator, producer and host of Confabulation, a Montreal-based all-true monthly storytelling series.

Al LafranceIn Studio Producer & Host

Al escaped from the clutches of a small town in 2008. Unable to find a circus that was willing to take him on, he settled for a career in Sound Engineering, garnering a degree from Musitechnic. When the need for a circus environment became overwhelming, Al joined the staff of MainLine Theatre, thus satisfying his need to be surrounded by crazy people. His love of music and madness is displayed on a regular basis on his critically-acclaimed website, Bloody Underrated.
