Wow. Kina Grannis is awesome. I'm sure this comes as no surprise to her
300,000+ dedicated youtube subscribers. Before the concert I wasn't very
familiar with Kina other than having seen her in WongFu Productions'
"Funemployed" webisode and hearing a couple of songs, including a duet with
David Choi. With FEW exceptions, most of my favourite music comes from hip
hop artists. After experiencing Kina live, she has indeed become one of
those exceptions.
Petit campus was close to capacity that Tuesday evening with the majority of

On March 11th, 2011, an earthquake of magnitude 9.0 occurred off the island of Japan, triggering a tsunami that made its way across the country's coast and causing immense damage to nearby cities. The disaster took the lives of over 7000 people, and left countless others homeless or missing amongst their relatives.

For those of you who weren't there (and that's MOST of you), what you guys missed was the Asian equivalent of Live Aid, Wildstyle, Rapamania, Harlem World, Sedwick Ave., and Cedar Park...Pioneers doing it for their community, their art, and culture in Montreal.
I cannot give you a play-by-play of everything that happened, since you just had to be there! But I will tell you what I take away from all this...
For those of you who chose not to attend, because you were skeptical that your own people were capable of rocking a party right, you are absolutely wrong! Not only did we enjoy almost 4...
Jie Song of the Stone Forest Ensemble, in NYC, sent me this trailer for a documentary that he directed. The video is a preface to his "Emerging Face of a Nationless World" project for the 2010 World Expo (Shanghai, China) on behalf of the USA Pavilion.
Check it out!

Quite frankly, if we had never met in High School and traded rap tapes, he would've never invited me onto his show...and I would've never got the idea to pitch a show of my own. And the podcasting was all him too. Without that, our show wouldn't have grown so quickly either!
Thanks, SS!

So, we didn't win the "best hip hop show" award. BUT...
WE GOT THE BEST SPECIALTY SHOW!
This is my "consolation prize" for not landing dates with any of the fine female artists that I've interviewed/met. LOL ...All jokes aside, I did not get into this business to score a date with Christina Chung, Masia, T-Vu, Brooke Taylor, or Jey Flores...really, I didn't! :)
The fact that CJLO allowed me to become a pioneer in what I do is enough of a reward for me.
I've made a lot of friends, in doing so, and rec'ving an award for trying to be a difference-maker is numero uno!
As for the "best hip hop show" honor, we'll catch you next time :)
Shouts to all the artists, bloggers, activists, artist-managers, and contributors who've helped make this show...

Prior to pitching my show, back in June '09, I had contacted a who's who of Asian/Asian North-American artists, in order to gather support...the very first responders were the Notorious MSG!
They've been supporting my show, since day 1, and I just got this tweet from them...thought I'd post it up here as their words are gold!
