Oh, hey guys!
Alright so it has been the hot topic for us Concordia students for a while not, with our faculty strikes and library sit-ins. The tuition fee increase that is being work towards by the government is topic of much contestation on campus, and the strike is propelling the subject into further discussion, with media and the general public casting their attention towards the student's outcry.
But what is your opinion?
From the vast amount of discussions i've had with my friends recently, the feelings towards the strike are mixed.
Tomorrow, it would be a pleasure to have people phone in and give their opinion, whatever it may be. Want to rant? Rant. Seriously, i want to know.

Yes, the day is coming up.
Whether dread it or not, there is always a light of positivity to connect with Valentines Day. Whether or not you choose to celebrate your love with material possesions or not, that is up to you. But what Valentines really does is serve to remind us that really, everyday is one to showcase how we love EVERYONE, 24/7. Let's not limit ourselves to one day!

Yo!
Ever felt apathetic towards the current state of the world, and felt like there was no hope? Probably, becasue it is easy to put your mind into that point of view. However, what punk music (and music overall) acts as a constant remind of is that music acts as an outlet for those who want to voice their concern or join others in solidarity against pertinant social issues.
The music, in acting as a outlet for those voices, acts as a vehicle for being people together in solidarity, as well as attracting attention to the issues. A great example of this is the recent protest in NYC on Wall Street, appropriately titled "Occupy Wall Street". So, where was the show all summer?
That's right, hanging out in one of the most unsuspiciously musical cities in canada - OTTAWA! Thought it may be full of conversative government types? Think again. Unbenkownst to many people, the city hosts one of canadas most thriving punk/experimental music scenes.
Various bands, from classics such as germattack to lesser known bands such as rat tales, circulate the city's house shows and venues and have created a solid community within a city whose general social attitude is more on the conservative side.

For many, punk is that 3-chord guitar progression with a sped up 4/4 drum beat, raw, angry vocals and lyrics that speak to those questioning the government and seeking a subculture with a movement.
Although that is the case for manyself-proclaimed punk musicians, can the genre not shift in sound with the times? Can bands that speak of personal truths, integrity and stir movements in social uprise not be considered 'punk' even if they lack the token 'punk' sound?
This is what my show is all about. Revealing the many bands within Canada and across the globe that reperesent truth and play their music outside of the box, not molding to any expectatoins or genre barriers.

Best live band of January, along with best album release:}
BRAIDS!
Saw 'em live @ Sala Rossa, best concert ever, especially for their genre. The vocal melodies soared and intertwined with the drums that provided a melody all on their own, with the guitar providing an ample soundscape.
Make sure to listen to their album "Native Speaker", released this Jan. Oh yeah, listen to it on vinyl. For what they are producing, you might as well do their music justice by turning on the ol' record player.

Which was by all means legendary, with Montreal's Teenage Hookers bringing it hard and Liquor Store and Ether keeping in pace with strong music with Canada's local punk at its roots.

So it seems that I am a major fail at blogging...however I have been urged by my fellow djs to give it a try. Why not?
So for all of those who listen to my show, you know what its all about: pro-truth and pro-originality, and all that fits in under the "punk" genre. From Canadian locals and independant punk bands worldwide to classic old punk tunes from the vault, my show aims to prove that punk is not dead.
Contrary to what some may think, punk music is everywhere and it isn't just rehashed versions of old Clash tunes. It's new, fresh and alive; ranging from all corners of the globe.
