About this contributor

Since first being introduced to Electronic music I've listened to, and loved, a wide variety of different genres. Starting with styles like Gabber, Hardstyle, Trance and Jungle, and moving my way through Techno, Minimal, Fidget Electro, House and a whole lot more. Today I listen to as much as I can get my hands on, with a particular passion for bass-centric music that creatively uses elements of Dubstep or Experimental Hip-Hop. I work hard, daily, at constantly discovering new sounds and artists and staying on top of the ever evolving world that is EDM. Tune in Saturday nights from Midnight to 1am to catch my show, The Letter "B", so that I can share that with you and hopefully introduce you to something totally new!

XI is a Toronto DJ/Producer who's style can generally be said to fit within the definition of Bass music (though he clears that up a bit here). If you're not familiar with his name, you're certainly familiar with his music as we've played quite a few of his tunes on the show. This past week he delivered an absolutely stellar performance at Mutek in Metropolis' Savoy room during Nocturne 3 (beating out Plastikman and Traversable Wormhole as the place to be, if you ask me). I was lucky enough to get a short interview in with him prior to the show. Take a listen below as he talks about his sound, the Canadian bass scene and hints at a secretive future project.

Apologies for the shoddy sound, there were a few different soundchecks...

Mutek’s Nocturne 2 was the Modeselektion night – a night of forward thinking party music whose main room line-up was curated by Germany’s Modeselektor.

The event really was a no-nonsense affair; there was no space on this line-up for filler, so things got started right away with the heavily anticipated Siriusmo. I walked in about half way through his set to a relatively...

Regular listeners will have noticed how often I play and talk about James Blake. I try to limit how much I actually say on the air so that I can give you as much music as possible, but if you want to know exactly how I feel about James Blake, or just want to learn a bit more about him, you're in luck! Now that his debut album is finally out, I've written a full review of it. Check it out here, or by clicking on the Magazine tab you see right up there (and check out all the other wonderful articles we have while you're at it).

If the name James Blake is unfamiliar to you, it shouldn’t be for long. Since the release of his first EP a year and a half ago on Untold’s Hemlock Recordings, he has been steadily gaining a very large following. Initially, that following came from electronic dance music circles; however, today Blake finds himself poised to explode onto a wider audience in a big way. While there are a number of artists who break and achieve widespread popularity every year, Blake is particularly...
