Women Live @ CJLO

Hot off the heels of their critically acclaimed self-titled debut record, Calgarians Women dropped by CJLO one Friday afternoon and recorded what turned out to be the first LIVE session ever for The Reaktor.  Hijinks ensued, as Stabby Abby aka Starr-Girl did her first live CJLO interview, and Women treated the CJLO listening audience to a nearly ten minute rendition of "Lawncare" that ends in a seven minute long squall of fuzz drenched noise that sounds like what I'd imagine a jet en

Brother Ali Live @ CJLO

It's not a secret that I'm a huge hip hop fan, as Hooked on Sonics occasionally dabbles in the genre here and there.  Having been a long-time fan of Brother Ali, when I noticed a hint of a last minute possibility for a session based on his tour routing, I quickly contacted our pal Jess at Co-Sign Collective who got on the horn immediately with Ali's people at

Revocation Live @ CJLO

Fresh off of a co-headlining show with The Last Felony at Underworld the night before, Boston death metal act Revocation rolled into CJLO on Saturday, November 29, 2009, a bright and sunny morning that seriously damaged my sleep-deprived corneas.

You Say Party! We Say Die! Live @ CJLO

Hot on the heels of burning up CJLO’s top 10 and in town for Pop Montreal, Vancouver 5-piece You Say Party! We Say Die! stumbled into the CJLO studios October 1, 2005 covered in blood. Covered in blood? Damn right. Well…sorta. The guys and gals had just got out of a photo shoot (the results can be seen here) and the fake blood proved to be a lot more difficult to get off. Meh, not really a bad thing. The bloodied-up look is punk.

Uncut Live @ CJLO

On the afternoon of December 12, 2004, the CJLO studios were paid a visit by Toronto's Uncut and Magneta Lane, dropping by to record respective sessions and interviews for Hooked on Sonics.  Now, bands always come late for sessions, but as a precaution, whoever's responsible for the session still gets to the station a little bit earlier than the agreed upon time to set up, etc.  Due to work, I was running late, and o

The Bled Live @ CJLO

Tuscon’s The Bled rolled into the CJLO studios October 28, 2005 and recorded what probably has been the loudest CJLO Session to date.

After having serious trouble getting to the station (thanks, Mapquest…who, for the record, gives the complete opposite directions to get to the station, sending you to East Montreal, rather than West), the guys trucked on, determined to get this session done.
