Hidden Gems

AIRS ON: Thursdays // 3 PM - 4 PM
HOSTED BY: Jean-Philippe

Climb up in my attic and discover the many musical treasure boxes to find the hidden gems - and hidden jams - of the world! A focus will be put on Canadian music. Discover French-speaking artists outside of Québec, Indigenous artists, musicians from rural areas and many artists who fall outside the realm of popular music in Canada. You will leave the hour with a taste of diversity and an eye for the various perspectives of the many peoples of Canada.

Jean-Philippe Giroux is a student in journalism at Concordia University in the Graduate Diploma program of Visual Journalism. He completed his Undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa in Conflict Studies and Human Rights in 2018. He is interested in identity, group socialization, culture and the expression of identity through music. No musical genre is off limits! Originally from Northern Ontario, he grew up in a Franco-Onarian household with country folk and French music such as Lisa Leblanc and Daniel Bélanger. As a child of the internet, he explored various artists from shock rock artists like Marilyn Manson to experimental pop acts like Björk and Sevdaliza. Hidden Gems tackles a selection of songs not defined by a specific style of music but by its interest for identity, storytelling and intellectualism.
