Festival international Nuits d'Afrique July 13-25th

From July 13 to 25, 2010 the Festival international Nuits d'Afrique invites you to come and dialogue through music, with hundreds of artists, singers, dancers and musicians from here and elsewhere, worthy representatives of 30 countries. You are invited to come and celebrate culture, diversity and métissage. 53 shows filled with colour and content, on indoor and outdoor stages. Not to be missed!

Between tradition and modernity, the festival’s artists will be offering a métissage, or blend, of genres and a great musical journey from the four corners of the world. More than ever, Nuits d'Afrique will let them have their say. In addition, the major trend this year, in light of a world music renewal, is the presence of women’s creations, which will be heard loud and clear.

Senegalese artist Omar Pene was the ideal godfather for this year’s Festival. For the last 30 years, this rebel in his soul is part of all social debate. In the early 1980s, some of his writings were even prohibited. For him, music, its universality and the happiness it generates are the best communication channels that can be. Nuits d'Afrique is pleased and proud to welcome him once again.

Grands Evenements Series

Konono No. 1 (Dem. Rep. Congo) is an unusual, avant-garde group that has thrown together a sound on the boundary between traditional rhythms, experimental rock and electroacoustics.

Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars (Sierra Leone) are the heart-rending but inspiring story of musicians who have fled civil war and who put their hearts and talent into the service of hope, soothing the suffering of everyone living in exile.

Omar Pene (Senegal), the singer from the legendary Super Diamono, has been spreading his message of solidarity around the world for 30 years without ever forgetting that music is, above all, an invitation to celebration. After their memorable visit last year,

Kassav' (Guadeloupe /Martinique), the creators of zouk, are back for another flamboyant closing concert that will mark the end of the 24th edition of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique and will long leave traces of sunshine and
vitality over the entire city.
