Yo!
Ever felt apathetic towards the current state of the world, and felt like there was no hope? Probably, becasue it is easy to put your mind into that point of view. However, what punk music (and music overall) acts as a constant remind of is that music acts as an outlet for those who want to voice their concern or join others in solidarity against pertinant social issues.
The music, in acting as a outlet for those voices, acts as a vehicle for being people together in solidarity, as well as attracting attention to the issues. A great example of this is the recent protest in NYC on Wall Street, appropriately titled "Occupy Wall Street". For the past week, every day at 3:00 pm, protesters have been congregating along the streets of Wall Street to protest the current economic state of the US and the depletion of pensions and health care. Serious issues that face the majority of us, apart from those at the top manipulating the economy.
So! The protest goes on, gathering individuals such as ourselves, and great musicians such as Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel, joined in to even further the media attention. With his help, and the community of protesters around the world who have been meeting in their hometowns, the atttention spotlight has been shining on the protest and hpoefully, increasing the potential for change.
