an evening to remember with Ghetto Pony + zie end

Like many bands in Montreal's music scene, Ghetto Pony boasts oddly paired instruments in their line up. There's a stand-up bass but it's not rockabilly, there's a laptop but it's not electro, there's keyboards but it's not techno. Call it what you fancy. One thing's for sure — it gets people dancing. Tune into CJLO at 6pm EST, on Saturday, May 24th and kick up some funny moves to the infamous sounds of Ghetto............Pony!

after 2 (somewhat) solid years of bringing you quality alternative indie and retro from the 80s to present, unsystem-addict is going on an indefinite hiatus with a return in september or.. never!

retroh for AM

wednesday september 12th from noon - 6pm
as part of the concordia csu orientation/media fair or some such...
i'm going to be djing some retro and retro-esque music in support of my radioshow unsystem-addict and of course to celebrate cjlo's march around the corner to AM 1690.

please drop by. even just for a bitty if you're in the hood? come on. it would be nice. even if you don't think i deserve your support, cjlo sure as heck does. disagree? come on down and see if you can argue when you get there.

i'm not 100% sure where yet, but my somewhat educated guess is at the sgw campus, on the terasse out behind java u/reggies in the concordia hall building. up some stairs if you're out on mackay street there.

and there will be food and drinks i think too. beer and bbq i believe.

cjlo djs will be rockin all over the place for the next couple of weeks. on monday the 10th there's the loyola clubs fair and there's some greasy carnival on september 6th at sgw. i regret to inform you the only freaks at these so-called carnivals will be some of concordia's newbies no doubt (don't mind me i'm just tired of being mistaken for one of them 5 years after the fact)...

i must add we appreciate their attendance as a lot of these goings ons are aimed at their getting in-the-know of the wonder that is cjlo pronto. so they don't have to ever look back like i did and say 'why didn't i know about this 3 years ago???'

just a note to say that i FINALLY got my copy of yourcodenameis: milo's new release 'they came from the sun'. after much ordeal i have it in my possession and yes, it does impress. (like the song called i'm impressed suggests ...) so uber exciting i'm going to play the whole darn thing next saturday april 21st. and it's aboot time! the anticipation has been rough. so if you don't like it, (though i highly recommend giving it a listen) you can tune in the following week when i'm going to do an alternative 80s retroh special. til then, well wishes from the fishes (and me)

HALLOWEENY and 80s RETROHNESS

hi there - wanted to note note note WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 25th cjlo will be doing an early halloween night party of sorts at reggies. i'm in charge of somewhat organizing so please come out and show yon support. we'll have some dark-mooded music cjlo-style (c/o Angelica of BVST, myself, Josh of kids are so-so and Dan Stefik of the ground up etc.) and prizes and film premiers! what the heck would you say no to all that for???? oh ya, say you're busy but we know you're really just lying cus you're so good at the insincerity stuff that's so darn popular these days... douches. heh

and wear a costume because it's not unhip. halloween's one of the least lame and most fun holidays in truth (as it's not tied up in religion or history so much it seems. i've got a costume. you know you only get the chance to once a year. and you're only somewhat young for so long to boot. stick that in yon snobby pipe and smoke it! oh and therell be prizes.

AND perhaps MORE IMPORTANTLY (if it's possible, which it is, only in this case i suppose...) WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 1st is going to be the best 80S ALTERNATIVE RETRO PARTY ever at reggies. i'm going to dj (!) along with le elite et tres magnifique dj axiene (aka pierre aka GOOD frackin TASTE IN MUSIC) of beautiful music for ugly children fame. yowsa! and there'll be drinking and dancing and fancy lights! feel free to send requests in the vein of - the cure, the clash, depeche mode, the smiths, joy division, pet shop boys, omd etc.

oh and i'll bite you or fix you with my sticks if you ask me nice enough. as if you needed additional incentive...

special music for all you special people

just wanted to tell anyone checking out the page that there's going to be a 'special' show tonight with more of a focus on some sweet alterna-80s- retro.

despite its superficial revival with the trendiest of sorts these days, it has always held a notable place in my heart and there seems to be nothing that can change that. because it's moving in a way all its own. and hard to shake. i've been feeling it this summer like i have the past 4 summers. it's an estranged warp of sorts to experience. some of those who are close to me have a bit of an idea how i feel.

that said, this show aims to pay tribute to feeling a little stuck in the past, or somewhat sad about the loss of the music and time and day that was once a new wave, and is now so very retrohh.

retro may be over. but its all over this show.

so tune in and get down. bust out that weird morrissey-like dance move you usually keep in the closet. let it all out. you know you want to.
