My Bloody Japancakes Now here's something... News from Darla.com: Japancakes from Athens GA covers My Bloody Valentine's Loveless EXCLUSIVE. Available 11/13/2007. Athens, GA's experimental, instrumental, Americana group, Japancakes cover My Bloody Valentine's classic Loveless record from start to finish with pedal steel and cello in place of vocal and lead melodies -- and without any distortion. MBV's Loveless (Creation: 1991) remains the defining record of the genre and completely unparalleled by any artist since. This is super fun! Japancakes don't record together like other bands. They do play together but when they record in studio they do so one at a time. Each player writes their own part and adds it to the part(s) recorded previously by fellow band members. The result of this practice is that the personality of each individual player is often better captured. Each player's individual performance is strengthened by the technique. Japancakes is Eric Berg, rhythm guitar, Nick Belli, bass, Brant Rackey, drums, John Neff, pedal steel, Heather McIntosh, cello, Andy Barker, production. TRACKLISTING: 1. Only Shallow, 2. Loomer, 3. Touched, 4. To Here Knows When, 5. When You Sleep, 6. I Only Said, 7. Come In Alone, 8. Sometimes, 9. Blown A Wish, 10. What You Want, 11. Soon. |

Twee Time moves to Friday 8-9PM starting June 1 Hey Hai Hayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy After over 3 months of unemployment, I finally got a new boring old office job. I'll be sitting at a boring old desk, writing boring old tech manuals, drinking awful office coffee, and wearing boring old office clothes. This means I have to give up my Monday show because I'd never make it to the station on time. But don't fret! CJLO and our program director Katie have kindly given me a new time slot. Twee Time is now going to be aired live on CJLO every Friday starting at 8:00PM Tune in to the new day and time starting Friday June 1! Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/tweetime |

Mana "China" Nishiura Dies From http://www.shonenknife.com: It is with a deep sadness in my heart, that I must announce the passing of Mana "China" Nishiura. She was tragically killed in a three-vehicle accident near the Delaware Memorial Bridge [...] November 4 shortly before 1 p.m., after the Econoline van carrying her band, DMBQ, had crossed the bridge from New Jersey near Carneys Point in Salem County. A Mitsubishi Eclipse clipped the van's left rear fender. The van spun out of control, and careened over a barrier on the ramp to Route 40. The van - carrying the four band members and their tour manager Michelle Cable, from San Francisco - then rolled several times down an embankment and into the path of a Ford pickup truck. Mana was ejected from the van and she died at the scene. The other passengers were being treated last night for non-life-threatening, but serious, injuries. Her family was notified by the Japanese Embassy of the tragedy. |

My Bloody Valentine Halloween Special Press photo Sire, (mybloodyvalentine.net) Here’s a little bit of trivia that fits with today’s Halloween show: My Bloody Valentine took their name from an early 80’s Canadian horror movie, which was described as the “perfect example of the formula slasher movie.” I vaguely remember seeing this movie when I was a kid, and of course it was terrible but oh so good. We’ve got the crazed serial killer with an odd creation story, authority figures that are totally useless, horny teenagers who get killed when they try to relieve said horniness, and the complete lack of common sense in everyone involved. The tag line was: “There’s more than one way to lose your heart.” I think that’s fitting. |
