Banning violent video games unconstitutional: U.S. Supreme Court

A California law banning the sale or rental of violent video games was deemed unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. The law violates the U.S. First Ammendment right to freedom of expression.

Supporters of the ban feel that the government has a role in protecting minors from harm. And Violent video games bring harm according to the state of California. They adopted a law in 2005, which made it illegal for minors to rent or purchase video games. But the law wouldn’t stick because of legal battles with the video game industry who call video games no more a teacher of violence than books or movies.

The Supreme court agreed that the decision to purchase video games should be in the hands of parents, not the state.
