Big-box store's workers union splits up

Workers March Against Wal Mart

In Saskatchewan, workers' at a major big box store has just lost its chance to fight for its rights.

In a report by CBC News, workers at a Wal-Mart store in the town of Wayburn voted 51 to 5 to decertify their worker's union.

This comes after a campaign was launched to make that store's workers union is non-existent.

The Canadian Supreme Court dismissed the Union's Application to contest the results of the vote, as workers argued that the voting process was unfair.

The Union in question was the "United Food and Commercial Workers".

Certified since 2008, it had never reached a bargaining agreement with the Wal-Mart.

Worker's unions have never been under Wal-Mart's approval.

The company has resisted workers' attempts to unionize for nine years.

Only three stores have tried to make it happen.

One store at Saint-Hyacinthe nullified its union, and the other in Jonquière has closed down.
