Coalition Avenir Québec leader, François Legault, stated on Sunday that Kamal G. Lufti will cease to be the party’s candidate in the Laval riding of Comedey.
According to the Montreal Gazette, Lufti made claims on Twitter that some sovereignists are racist.
Lufti claimed that some of the sovereignists wanted to abolish multiculturalism and that some were even hateful towards other cultures.
Legault later stated that those comments are exactly opposite to the parties political orientations.
Lufti also claims to have experienced racist episodes while working on the Mouvement Desjardins. He states that he felt black for the first time in his life.
His comments were removed as of Sunday.
The CAQ must now choose a new candidate for the riding of Chomedy, as rumors state that the election campaign could begin as soon as August 1 with a possible election date of September 4th.
