More people sentenced to death in Egypt

The Egyptian judge presiding over a mass trial of Muslim Brotherhood supporters has pronounced the death sentence on all 683 defendants.

According to the Toronto Star, the verdict has created widespread international condemnation from governments and rights groups.

The same judge also delivered a final verdict on a previous trial of 529 alleged militants and supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi by upholding 37 death sentences and commuting the others to life imprisonment.
