Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott has declared the government of Canada will cover the future and retroactive costs of Indigenous Child and Family Services.

CBC News reports the declaration is a reaction to another compliance order from the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, stating the government’s actions do not reprisent the "seriousness and emergency of the issues.”

Ottawa will also immediately begin funding First Nation children and youth mental health services in Ontario, and vowed to stop relocating funds from other programs for child welfare services.
