A Quebec judge has determined that a lower court justice’s decision to deny a woman from court because she was wearing a hijab goes against the principles of Canadian law protecting freedom of religion.

According to the Globe and Mail, Rania El-Alloul was told by Judge Eliana Marengo in February of 2015 that she could not have her car insurance case processed if she came to court wearing a hijab.

Despite this recent ruling, it is uncertain whether or not other women will be able to wear their hijabs at future court appearances.
