New York City has proposed a ban on the sale of oversized soft drinks.
According to CTV News, NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg said the ban would focus on the sale of oversized soft drinks in restaurants, delis and movie theatres.
Certain loopholes exist in the proposal. Those loopholes include diet soda, fruit juices, and any drinks that contain milk or milk substitution. Criticism has been expressed over this loophole claiming a high calorie Starbucks Frappucino wouldn’t be affect because of its high dairy content.
The proposal relates to sugar used in these drinks being contributors to obesity.
The ban could come into effect as early as March.
