This Week In Sports: April 26th

NHL:

The playoffs continue to roll on as we've seen a couple of teams get eliminated already. The Nashville Predators and St.Louis Blues each took down they're respective opponents, the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks, in 5 games. The Philadelphia Flyers stopped the Pittsburgh Penguins comeback bid with a 5-1 on home ice Sunday to take the series in 6. Cup favorites to start the playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks, will instead be hitting the golf courses early as they were also ousted in 5 by the LA Kings. The Rangers/Sens, Bruins/Caps, Devils/Panthers and Coyotes/Hawks series' rage on for the time being.

NFL:

The draft is right around the corner, and while the top two picks are already locked in, speculation runs rampant for the rest of the top 10 selections and beyond. The Indianapolis Colts have already told Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck that he will be selected first overall and become the heir apparent to the vacant QB position in Indy left by Peyton Manning. The Washington Redskins traded up to the #2 hole to select Baylor QB Robert Griffin III, better know as RG3. From there, it may be already decided, or it might be a crapshoot. The Vikings are expected to provide their second-year QB Christian Ponder with some protection, and will do so by selecting Matt Kalil, left tackle from USC. The Browns might go QB at 4, but they're more likely to take game-breaking running back Trent Richardson from Alabama. At 5, the Tampa Bay Bucaneers will hope for Richardson to drop to them, but if he doesn't the logical choice is cornerback Morris Claiborne from LSU. At 6, the Rams will probably still get the guy they would have taken at #2 (the Rams traded the pick to Washington), Justin Blackmon, wide receiver from Oklahoma State University. At seven, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking for help on the defensive side of the ball, so look for Melvin Ingram or Quinton Coples to be the quick. The Miami Dolphins, sitting at 8, might look to take whoever the Jags pass on, but they will most likely look to QB, specifically Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M, whose meteoric rise up draft boards has led to rampant debates around NFL circles.

After that, anything could happen; we will have all the answers Thursday night, but there is no doubt there will be plenty of excitement surrounding the draft.
