Sylvie Live @ CJLO

From the prairie-lands of Regina, Saskatchewan, poppy post-punk outfit Sylvie paid a visit to CJLO July 29, 2005. Already hearing a buzz about the band (guitarist/singer Joel Passmore was in Despistado, another CJLO and Hooked on Sonics fave), a couple of us CJLO kids caught the Sylvie set the previous night where they opened for Uncut and Wintersleep (both past CJLO/Hooked on Sonics Session guests).  After the show, Derek of Uncut introduced us to the Sylvie gang and suggested we set up a session.  As luck would have it, they had a day off on the tour the next day so phone #’s were exchanged and we hooked things up.

Some of the nicest people to ever visit CJLO, Sylvie endured probably the longest engineering adjustments ever (sorry kids, tt was my first engineering endeavour) and sadly, due to the last-minute nature of the session we only managed to get a few pix and no video was done.  But the tunes came out A-OK.  Plus we learnt of Riva’s gangsta rap past, as she made some ol’ school Ice Cube requests on CJLO’s 40oz Quartet show. Ice Cube dance party? Indeed.
