Nuits D'Afrique: Manu Dibango & the Soul Makossa Gang

It was the grand opening bash for the 25th Nuits D’Afrique Festival and the Metropolis was buzzing with electric atmosphere. The lively crowd was instantly energized when the Soul Makossa Gang played their first riffs, and people began smiling and pulsating to an African disco beat. After a few tunes, bandleader and legendary saxophonist Manu Dibango took the stage. We were now in the presence of greatness.

Fantasia Film Festival 2011

I must admit to you all that is, in fact, my first time attending the Fantasia Film Festival, but so far it's been a truly wonderful experience. At every screening, the people of the city are literally lining up the block to see these wonderful films. The atmosphere is busy and hustling. Everyone seems to know someone at this festival and it makes me a little nervous.

Abby "Too Many Nicknames to list" Schachter

Straight to the point, when Abby started at CJLO some of us thought she was a little.... eccentric, but we all loved her. She helped on the news team, cohosted and then began her own weekly show and was an all around great volunteer. It was almost kismet when Abby applied for the Volunteer Coordinator. She helped organize and guide other members of CJLO in finding task to help the station run smoother. Kunal is in town with Simon Helburg to MC the Just for Laughs A Tribute to Nerds event on July 29th.

Such is the curse of many career singer-songwriters, including Jolie Holland, formerly of the Be Good Tanyas, who released her fifth solo album Pint of Blood just last week to unanimously polite reviews.

3 Inches of Blood Live @ CJLO

Not many bands would show up anywhere before the fashionable time of noon o'clock unless it was for something huge.  That's not the case for 3 Inches of Blood, who showed up at CJLO early on a Monday morning at 9:30 to do a session at our lovely station. Not only did they come to do the session for what most bands would call an ungodly early part of the morning, but they also did it on the first day of filming for a documentary that's being made about them and their tour across Canada with the
