The death of a patient has resulted in the suspension of two nurses.
The Montreal Gazette reports that the nurses were suspended for two and four weeks by the Quebec Order of Nurses.
The suspensions stem from an incident in August 2008. Christine Sasseville died of a major brain hemorrhage shortly after she gave birth to her third child at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.
The hospital report said that Sasseville died from medical error and that the staff on duty that night did not perform the protocol for someone in her condition. Doctors underestimated the urgency of her state and nursing care was absent.
Sasseville’s husband said that the suspensions are too short. A prosecutor suggested that the nurses be suspended for two months.
The baby although born prematurely survived.

The FECQ and FEUQ made their first counter-proposal, but it failed to impress.
According to CTV News, Education Minister Line Beauchamp called the proposal “disappointing”. She said in a press conference that the groups’ position had not changed and will not change its stance on tuition hikes.
The associations announced their proposal at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. Students who are against the counter-proposal were in attendance as well wearing masks and not aligning themselves with a known association.
The duo feels that the Charest Government’s plan to improve student loan systems and make payments according to income would scare off future students. They also believe their plan will help save the government money rendering a tuition hike useless.
The offer includes 7 crucial points including a freeze on tuition at 2012 rates and a committee to monitor management of universities.
The CLASSE is expected to present their counter-proposal to the government later in the week.

The upcoming Summer Olympic Games in London could have an extra accessory on rooftops.
The Globe and Mail reported on Sunday, that surface-to-air missiles could be positioned on the rooftops of apartment buildings in East London located just 3 kilometres from London's Olympic Stadium.
Information leaflets were distributed to the 700 residents who reside in this complex. They were advised that 10 troops and the weapons would be based there for about 2 months. Britain has confirmed that these missiles do not pose any hazards to residents.
This is just one idea of Britain vast security operation being planned for the Olympic Games this coming August. 13 500 troops along with security and police forces have committed to patrols on land, sea and air during the Games.

CLASSE voted to rejected the liberal government’s tuition increase proposal.
Quebec’s most militant student group voted at a weekend meeting in Quebec city.
CLASSE’s spokeswoman Jeanne Reynolds said the proposal did not really respond to their demands.
Premier Jean Charest proposed Friday to spread to tuition increase on seven years instead of five, and to increase the bursary program.
Tuition would rise from $254 a year for seven years instead of $325 on five years.
But the legitimacy of the increase is what is being questioned, and there has been no compromise on that.
The proposal still has to be discussed with Quebec’s college and university students associations FECQ and FEUQ, but their leaders said they doubt the offer will be accepted.
The two groups said they think about mediation, but CLASSE said it isn’t interested because they think it won’t change anything at this point.
On Sunday, the Quebec Liberal Government said it was relocating its annual convention from Montreal to Victoriaville because of the protests.
Nightly protests have been held in Montreal lately, marked by violent police interventions.
A major protest was planned to be held in Montreal Sunday night.
The province-wide class boycott is in its eleventh week and has since drawn international attention.
