CJLO'S METAL SHOWS GET A BRAND NEW LOOK! PART 2

After inspiring a bunch of CJLO shows to turn toward the darknessMetal March has officially wound to a close for yet another year. Now that Approachable April has begun, some of CJLO's heaviest shows are doing their best to reach out to the rest of the community, and lure unsuspecting victims listeners in through a cuddly rebranding initiative.

Rap Battle Against Consumerism: Rap Takes on Familiar Foe

Consumerism is defined as the “protection and promotion of the interests of the consumer,” according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Dan Parker is looking to show that it is maybe time to update the term.

On March 29th, the latest installment of Rap Battles for Social Justice, “Rap Battles Against Consumerism”, will take place at Le Belmont, at 8 p.m.

CJLO Embraces Darkness Once Again During Metal March

Metal March is back on CJLO, and as in previous years, some of CJLO's mainstay shows have decided to channel the darkness within, with a heavy new musical direction and brand new logos to boot. They join some of CJLO's other shows in letting go of their unique formats and jumping in to the world of extreme music.

The Best of 2016

Releases We Loved

There is a new and exciting year ahead of us, but we here at CJLO want to take this chance to reminisce about the wonderful music, film and television, events, and FUN that 2016 bestowed upon us. The folks at the "little station that does!" give you their top picks of the year, and the lists reflect the amazing radio that broadcasts on CJLO every day, as well as the eclectic tastes of our DJs, volunteers, and staff!

And while you're here, have a look at our on-air schedule for more information on our programming, or click on a DJ's show page, all hyperlinked for your convenience below (because we care, man).

Pokemon Sun and Moon: A Journey into the Seventh Generation

After 22 teaser trailers, multiple release updates, and dozens of "confirmed" and unconfirmed leaks, it is now mere WEEKS away until the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon. With that said, it's time to look back at the most common speculations that were made and how well they held up. Before we do, there are some recent updates that cannot be ignored.

Pokemon Sun and Moon: A Journey into the Seventh Generation

There is officially only about a month left until the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, and Nintendo has kept up with rolling out reveal after reveal. September alone was chock-full of new Pokémon, Z-Moves, new characters and exciting new features, but the first week of October held one of the most anticipated announcements: the second evolutions of the starter Pokémon. There have been theories, speculations, hypotheses, concept drawings and all kinds of other synonyms for guesses towards what our adorable little owl, smooth looking feline and awkward little clown seal would grow into.

The Only Appropriate Things John Waters Said at POP Montreal

This Filthy World: An Evening with John Waters - POP Montreal 2016

As a poor University student living in my first apartment way back in the mid-nineties, I spent many a weekend watching old VHS tapes rented from the "cult film" section at Movieland on Saint-Catherine Ouest. 'Member VHS? Anyway, one fateful Friday night I picked up a faded old box that featured a frightening woman-creature in a red dress and big bouffant hairdo on the cover.

The Career Girl's Guide to POP Montreal

POP Montreal 2016 - #CJLOgoesPOP

Contrary to popular misconception, many of us "older" ladies out there who work full time Monday through Friday love music too. In fact, we can rock out harder than most of you slackers, and there's absolutely no way we're going to miss POP Montreal just because we have to wake up at 6:00 AM so we can be alert at our desks by 9:00.

Pokemon Sun and Moon: A Journey into the Seventh Generation

It's only fair to issue a tsunami warning for the amount of information about to be covered: August flooded fans with a massive amount of updates for Pokémon Sun and Moon. So much so, that it was almost too much to handle. Rather than try and run the last month chronologically, we'll run through it feature by feature, starting with the newly-revealed Pokémon.

Hillside Music Festival 2016

For several years I've had the pleasure to attend the Hillside Music Festival, and this year's edition proved once again to be a highlight of the summer. Located on the scenic Guelph Lake Island, one would be hard-pressed to find a nicer location to kick back and listen to some tunes. Featuring The Milk Carton Kids, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, and Buffy Sainte-Marie to name but a few artists, there was certainly something for all musical tastes. From folk to funk and some electronic heaviness thrown in for the young and the young at heart.

IleSoniq 2016 Photo Diary

Remember the first ÎleSoniq? Tiny stages, a little chaotic, and a lot of fun? Coming home from my third year of attending, the place is barely recognizable compared to what it used to be. But one thing still remains: it's still one hell of a lot of fun. Excellent lineup, excellent people, and even with Heavy Montreal going on at the same time, excellent planning. I took inspiration from the lineup of the festival, which always seems to be exploring new perspectives in dance music, and took a look at the festival through a different lens.

OSHEAGA 2016 - Three days, two nights, and over 100 bands!

As someone who's been to Osheaga five summers in a row, it's safe to say that, when it comes to this specific music festival, I've been there, done that. From the anticipation of arriving at Parc Jean-Drapeau on that first Friday, to the elation of running from show to show all weekend long, without forgetting the desperation of trying to get the hell off the island on that last Sunday night, I've seen it all – and then some. So, when I found out that I would be the lucky CJLO-er covering this year's festival, I was quite skeptical about how much fun I could still actually have during what would be my sixth weekend among a crowd of 135,000 boisterous attendees.

Eclipse 2016 - Circle of Light

How do I condense last weekend into under 1000 words? I guess I'll start at the beginning...
