The nurses union at the McGill University Health Centre is calling out budget cuts that it says will impact employees and care at the facility.
According to the Montreal Gazette, the Syndicat des Professionnelles en soins infirmiers et cardiorespiratoires du CUSM issued a statement Thursday saying that there is no clear explanation on how the budget cuts are being done.
President of the Syndicat, Denyse Joseph says the decisions appear to be based on cold calculations rather than quality of care.
However, the MUHC says the cuts were carefully weighed when decisions made and are confident that they will be able to offer the best quality care for patients.
According to CBC News, under this new ruling, around 200, 000 Metis and 400, 000 non-status Indians are now under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government.
Without this distinction, Metis and non-status Indians lacked significant funding for programs, services and other benefits.
The ruling was unanimous, and ended a 17-year battle with its release on Thursday.

A new registry may help see that 85 per cent of Quebecers have a family doctor by the end of December, 2017.
According to CBC News, the provincial government is launching an online database to help connect patients with family doctors.
The promise to have the majority of Quebec have family doctors was made in an agreement with the Federation de medecins omnipraticiens du Quebec last May.
While people in other databases will still keep their priority, the new registry will replace those that were put in place before Bill 20 abolished the other various services and health centres.
The registry can be found at gamf.gouv.qc.ca

The United Nations says that Boko Haram's use of child suicide bombers is rising, as they are forcing children as young as eight years old, and mostly girls, to die for their cause.
According to The Globe and Mail, the tactic comes as the extremist terror group tries to regain territory in Nigeria.
Known for its religious fear-mongering campaign, the group has been raiding schools and kidnapping children to use as soldiers.
A recent UN report says that one-fifth of the 150 suicide bombings recorded last year involved children.
The report also noted that this tactic has been one of the most horrific aspects of violence in Nigeria and West Africa.

The First Nation of Attawapiskat is under a state of emergency following a rise in attempted suicides.
According to CBC News, several factors for the rise include home overcrowding, drug abuse, and the inherited emotional baggage from the former residential school system.
In response, Chief Bruce Shisheesh is coordinating a strategic plan with the band council this week; while Ontario's health ministry is sending an emergency response team to provide medical help and counselling.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the incidents heartbreaking, and pledged to help improve the living conditions of indigenous communities in Canada.

A demonstration against police brutality in Montreal turned violent Wednesday night with windows being smashed and vehicles set ablaze.
According to CTV and The Globe and Mail, around 200 protesters began marching through Montreal-North around 7pm.
The peaceful protest was supposed to mark the death of Jean-Pierre Bony, who died from injuries inflicted by a police rubber bullet last month.
However, several people began setting fires and breaking windows of businesses and cars around 9pm.
Montreal Police Commander Ian Lafreniere says the vandals may have had no connection to the protest.

Turkey is investigating claims that Islamic State militants smuggling stolen historical artifacts through its borders.
According to Reuters, Russia’s United Nations ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, wrote about the illegal activity in a letter to the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday.
The militant Islamic group is suspected of earning around $20 million a year from the illicit trade.
The relationship between Russia and Turkey has degraded dramatically since Turkey shot down a Russian jet near Syria’s border in November 2015.

The original Cloverfield film, produced by J.J. Abrams, dabbled in found-footage alien invasion horror films, from what I can remember of it. So it comes as a surprise that 10 Cloverfield Lane, from Dan Trachtenberg in his directorial debut, is less of a sequel to its predecessor, and more of a stand-alone series revival of a live-action thriller, that might be sequel material. First it must prove itself, and it certainly does. The acting and the suspenseful nature of the film, carry this film the mile long to make this a great revival. Also it should be noted that the marketing and the trailer to this film are a prime example of how to sell a movie without giving anything away. Before carrying on with this review, take a look at the teaser trailer and let it entice you into possibly reading further or going to see the film. Sadly this review will contain the basic plot summaries in order to represent the magic of the film and the way it was marketed.
The films starts out with the central protagonist Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) in a state of distraught, as she is packing up all her belongings from an apartment she shared with her partner, as the Bear McCreary score is the only thing heard. Michelle is involved in a car crash and ends up chained to a bed that is located in a bunker. This is where she meets Howard (John Goodman), who claims he is there to help her, but has a temper that might explode at any minute in this claustrophobic setting. Also under Howard's care is Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.), who has a care-free spirit about him that keeps things light amidst being in a bunker with the temperamental Howard. Everyone is in the bunker due to it not being safe outside, and the claustrophobia and the temperamental nature of Howard create most of the atmospheric sense of paranoia and horror for the most part of the film.
Where the original Cloverfield dabbled with the notions of creating horror out of found footage, 10 Cloverfield Lane creates the horror due to the intense and character-driven performance of John Goodman's Howard. Many are calling it a career performance for Goodman, and they are right. My only criticism is that the score sometimes overstays its welcome, especially when Howard and Michelle are delivering a monologue. Seriously, don't drown out John Goodman while he's delivering his lines! Not cool. When it comes down to it, 10 Cloverfield Lane is a great example of a standalone sequel that no one expected, and the marketing should be the staple on how to sell a film.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists leaked a massive amount of information this past weekend, implicating money laundering and tax avoidance connected to presidents and prime ministers all over the world.
According to BBC News, the documents, dubbed the Panama Papers, reveal links to 12 current or former heads of state, more than 60 relatives and associates of heads of state, and other politicians as well.
Icelands Prime Minister has resigned after the documents showed an undeclared interest linked to his wife's wealth.
Others implicated include associates of Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and Fifa's ethics lawyer, Juan Pedro Damiani.
The Panama Papers get their name from the Panamanian law firm associated to the documents, Mossack Fonseca, which helped clients establish secret shell companies and offshore accounts as a tax haven.
