After launching a petition to ban controversial pick-up-artist and blogger Daryush Valizadeh from entering Canada, a Montreal woman says she's received multiple death threats.

According to CBC News, Aurelie Nix says she's received both death threats and threats of rape after Valizadeh posted links to nude photos of her in response to her protesting his plans to come to Montreal.

In an online video, Valizadeh, also known as Roosh V asked fans to collect the personal information of protesters.

V's work is controversial as he has written extensively on techniques to seduce women, including a guide to sex tourism and is a vocal men's rights activist.

Despite the petition against his event having over 12, 000 signatures, Roosh V says he is determined to come to Montreal on Saturday.

A study finding that Canadians with HIV are living longer than ever shows inconsistencies in who is living longer.

According to CTV News, a researcher has pointed out that life expectancy has increased more for men than it has for women, aboriginals or those with a history of drug abuse.

In response, the researcher has asked for a national HIV/AIDS strategy with an emphasis on early treatment and prevention.

While the study offered no explanation for the discrepancy, the study's principal investigator suggested socioeconomic conditions and access to treatment as possible factors.

North Korea is turning its clocks back thirty minutes and creating it's own time zone, known as Pyongyang standard time.

According to Reuters, the change will take effect on August 15th and will mark the 70th anniversary of the country's liberation from Japanese rule.

Switching to Pyongyang time will also mean that Korea is leaving the timezone it shared with South Korea and Japan.

The 37th annual festival du Cochon Sainte-Perpétue is set to kick off Wednesday, despite the resentment of international and local animal rights activists groups.

According to a report by the Montreal Gazette, the SPCA Is voicing their concern for the second year in a row.

They feel the event subjects pigs and boars to suffering just for an alternate form of entertainment.
Activities at the festival include greased pig wrestling, trying to place hoops on boars necks, and picking up and putting pigs in large containers within a time limit.
Festival employee Nancy Morin insists animals are properly cared for, and that a veterinarian is on staff during the pig races.

Toronto Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly believes that easy access to guns may be a contributing factor to the spike.

American Airlines, United, Delta and Air Canada have banned the transport of game trophies on their planes.

According to the Washington Post, hunters can still ship hunting trophies with the United Parcel Service however, with representatives from UPS publicly stating that they refuse to be influenced by public opinion amidst current controversy.

These bans follow the recent illegal killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe by American big-game hunter Walter Palmer.

President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States says Delta alone has set a great example and that no airline should allow for the theft of Africa's wildlife by hunters.

The waiting list for children who need surgery is increasing.

In a report by the Montreal Gazette, more than 2,500 children at the Montreal Children's Hospital have been put aside on the priority list.

The numbers come after a Montreal mother went public on social media on behalf of her son who had his scheduled operation cancelled at the last minute.

This is the third time the boys surgery has been rescheduled due to a lack of ICU beds.

Critics say there is lack of funds to support and staff the Intensive Care Units of every pediatric hospital in Quebec.

The provincial government has committed to austerity cuts of up to 21 million dollars for health care.

As the Federal electoral campaigns kicked off Sunday, a call to end Stephen Harpers Conservative government was made by the opposition.

According to the Huffington Post, the Liberal premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne says Canada needs a new approach from a new prime minister.

Wynne criticized Harper of working against provinces instead of with them, as well as funding non-priority infrastructure projects.

She says that both federal and provincial governments must work together for the country to be at it's best.

At the moment, Wynne says she is working to elect Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, who seems to be set towards such a goal with the provinces, according to her.

The federal elections will take place October 19th.

Temperatures in Iranian city of Bandar Mashahr reached a high of 46 C on Friday but felt more like 73 because of the humidity.

According to CBC News, the heat wave has also reached Iraq, with temperatures as high as 52 C causing the Iraqi government to implement a mandatory holiday.

Citizens were warned to stay out of the sun and to stay hydrated in order to avoid the dangers of heatstroke.

Recent cuts to electricity and water in countries with conflict, like Iraq, have made it harder for many to beat the heat.

Currently, horses that pull carriages in Montreal are not allowed to work when the temperature exceeds 30 degrees.

According to CBC news, horses could be seen working throughout the day on Wednesday, when temperatures could reach 40 degrees with humidex.

While the general elections are poised to start October 19th, some speculate that Prime Minister Stephen Harper will begin the election campaign on Sunday.

According to Reuters, Conservative sources have said that Harper is likely to start the campaign in the first week of August.

Such a move would indicate that unofficial campaigning would begin as well - benefiting the Conservatives since they have more campaign funding than other parties.

If the Prime Minister does begin campaigning as early as this Sunday, it would mark the beginning of the longest electoral campaign in Canadian history.

Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jew, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after stabbing six people at Jerusalem’s Gay Pride Parade.

According to BBC News, Schlissel had also stabbed three people at the parade in 2005. Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin have both expressed their disapproval towards Schlissel’s actions and have called the stabbing a “hate crime”.

Two of the six people who were stabbed at this year’s parade have been seriously wounded, and it is unknown if they will ever recover from the incident.
