GAMERella: An Interview with Gina Hara

Founded in 2013, GAMERella has spent over ten years building a community of gamers across Canada and in its hometown of Montreal, Quebec. Celebrating over 10 years with thousands of alumni across the country, the GAMERella Game Jam will be happening November 15th and 16th, alongside the 2025 Montreal Games Week. Every year, GAMERella invites game lovers from beginners to experts to join in on the weekend-long game-making workshop, where they team up with other folks to create a game over two days. GAMERella is a springboard for many people interested in the video game industry from underrepresented communities (women, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, etc.).

Slipping into Other Worlds at Newspeak

In the middle of a dance party, you wouldn’t normally expect the DJ, anchored perfectly in the middle of four CDJs, to pull out a stringed instrument and turn a dance floor into an entranced audience. Yet that is what NGL Flounce did, and it is what I experienced at Newspeak on a chilly Saturday night, courtesy of the Massimadi x Discoño collaboration, an event closing out the 17th edition of the Massimadi film festival.

Jamming it real hard with Between Friends

The outside of Le Ministère was inconspicuous enough for a Monday. With a few smokers lingering outside and muffled music pouring onto the street, it seemed like any other evening on Saint-Laurent Street. Yet, past the chilly air and into the sweaty, hazy venue, indie pop duo Between Friends brought Montreal into the euphoric, 2000s-fuelled world of their new album, WOW!

Offline Concert Goer Surprised By Chiptune Band’s Rock Sensibilities

I had never heard of the band Anamanaguchi going into this; in all honesty, I was here for the opener bands Fanclubwallet and Ovlov.

The Encampments: A Cinema Politica Interview

On Monday October 20th, 2025 Cinema Politica will be screening The Encampments at 19H in the SGWH Hall building at Concordia University H-110. The documentary from director Michael T Workman and Ken Pritsker follows the recent campus protests against Isreal’s genocide in Gaza focusing on the two cases from Columbia University. At a time when freedom of speech is policed with such rigour, The Encampments provides a vital opportunity to hear what protesters have to say about Israel, Palestine, and accountability when it comes to how universities and other learning institutions speak and invest their money.

DJ Jazzy Maise takes on Palomosa 2025

Friday

The first thing I noticed after getting through the lax security was the reorientation of the festival grounds. Last year, Palomosa’s premier, the smaller Jardin stage was under the Tois Disques sculpture by blahblah. Instead of dancing under this creative brutalist concrete being, we were in a muddy pit of AstroTurf surrounded by festival bars all selling the same expensive drinks ($10 for a blue PBR is crazy).
